Home Restoration – Stucco Paint

Revised Recommendation for Stucco Paint

For some years, the Architectural Review Committee (ARC) has recommended a specific product and color of Behr paint when painting stucco on the rear façades of our homes.  A recent experience indicates, however, that the Behr product may not be as fade resistant as desired.

Over the past five years, the painters of 501 South Hanover, 21 West Barre and 19 West Barre used Sherwin Williams LOXON XP flat acrylic waterproofing masonry coating.  They used the Extra White base product (ID numbers 6503-57148; A24W01451), tinted to match the Fresh Praline color (We’re searching for the exact tint code that was used).  In the last two years, 17 West Barre and 15 West Barre on the same block were painted with the recommended Behr product.

Compared to the Sherwin Williams product, the Behr product has faded.  Pick a sunny day and have a look for yourself; the ARC feels that the Sherwin Williams product, tinted as described above, is recommended going forward.
